Carol Jean Conley was an artist, animal lover

Artist and animal lover Carol Jean Conley died of ovarian cancer Monday, June 27, 2011. She was 51.

She was born May 16, 1960, in Columbia to Clarence S. and June D. (Barnes) Conley.

Ms. Conley was a lifelong resident of Columbia. She graduated from Hickman High School in 1978 and received a degree from MU in medical technology.

She worked at University Hospital and Clinics for more than 25 years and was an active member of Forum Christian Church.

Ms. Conley's mother, June Conley, said her daughter loved animals.

"She liked pets of all kinds," she said. "She enjoyed feeding and watching birds."

At one time, Ms. Conley owned two Arabian horses, which she enjoyed drawing, her mother said. She also had a beautiful singing voice.

Ms. Conley is survived by her mother; brother Brent Conley and his wife, Kay, and their sons, Kyle and Michael, of Carnation, Wash.; sister Diane Hargrave and her husband, Ryan, and their sons, Will and Benjamin, of Maryville; and brother Kevin Conley of Kansas City.

Her father, Clarence Conley; grandparents Frank C. and Mary S. (Yancey) Conley; and grandparents William Floyd Barnes and Ruth P. (Hendricks) Barnes died earlier.

Visitation for Ms. Conley will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. in Columbia. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the same location.
