Betty Bruner Wood
COLUMBIA— Betty Bruner Wood of Columbia died Thursday, July 7, 2011. She was 92.
Ms. Wood was born Dec. 1, 1918, in Bloomington, Ind., to John Otto and Anne (Dawson) Sutphin.
She attended Bloomington public schools and graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor's degree in French and a minor in Spanish. She was also a member of the Delta Gamma sorority.
Ms. Wood worked as an executive secretary at Pan American Airways until she met her husband, Edmond Bruner. They married on Oct. 14, 1944.
After her husband's death in 1955, she married Joseph Wood two years later, and the couple moved to Columbia.
Ms. Wood worked for Stephens College for many years as a secretary in the music and English departments. She was also interested investments.
She was a member of the Fortnightly Group, the League of Women Voters, the Gray Ladies, the Kate Thompson Circle of King's Daughters and Sons, and First Presbyterian Church.
Ms. Wood is survived by one son, Michael Bruner and his wife, Donna, of St. Louis; one daughter, Betsey Bruner Jones, and her husband, Conway, of Columbia; two granddaughters, Nola and Franny Bruner, of St. Louis; one grandson, Benjamin Jones, and his wife, Susan; and two great-grandsons, Roger and Warren Jones, of Liberty.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. July 31, at First Presbyterian Church, 16 Hitt St.
