Lola Stewart Brooks

Lola Stewart Brooks of Columbia died Saturday, July 16, 2011, at University Hospital. She was 89.

Ms. Brooks was born Sept. 22, 1921, to Wright and Ivy (Weaver) Stewart.

She graduated from Hickman High School in 1939.

She married James W. Brooks in 1945. The couple owned a log cabin at 809 N. West Blvd. that was open to the public until two years ago.

Mrs. Brooks lived in Boone County her entire life and was an avid quilter who hand-quilted more than 150 quilts. She was also an antique collector throughout her life.

Mrs. Brooks is survived by a son, Terry Lee Brooks of Rocheport; a daughter, Rita Bishop and husband Gary of Reno, Nev.; a granddaughter, Brooke McLoughlin and husband Shane of Reno, Nev.; two great-grandchildren, Ayden Lampkins of Hallsville and Samantha Leigh McLoughlin of Reno, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, an infant daughter and a sister, Gladys, died earlier.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Funeral Service, 22 N. Tenth St. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.
