Juanita Marie Poe
COLUMBIA — Juanita Marie Poe loved the Columbia Area Senior Center.
She spent her time there after retirement playing pool and cards, volunteering and fundraising.
Mrs. Poe, 82, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2011.
She was born Oct. 25, 1928, on her family's farm in Englewood to Marvin and Mary Turner Richardson. She married Arnold Lee Poe on June 16, 1947. He died earlier on July 6, 2003.
Mrs. Poe spent more than 40 years working as a secretary and bookkeeper for Kansas City News, Auto Auction Central Missouri, the Boone County Fair Board and the Rocheport Water District.
In 1996, she survived and thrived after a heart attack and two open-heart surgeries. Mrs. Poe enjoyed driving her Jeep and being with her dog, Mandy. She kept flower and vegetable gardens and is remembered for her wisdom and funny stories.
Mrs. Poe is survived by daughters Susan Hamilton of Columbia and Sherri McCulloch of Joplin; grandchildren Whitney Hamilton Schneider and Kyle Hamilton, both of Columbia; great-grandson Riley Schneider of Columbia; nieces Wanda Davis of Columbia and Lynn Hays of Old Fort, N.C.; and nephews Tim Richardson of Louisville, Ky., and David Richardson of Chandler, Ariz.
Her parents, brothers Elton, Glen and Robert, and sister, Luella, died earlier.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1271 Business Loop 70 W., with a memorial service at 2 p.m. Inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
