Ronald "Tom" Baker

Ronald “Tom” Baker, 71, of Columbia died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011.

Mr. Baker was born May 16, 1940, in Columbia to James Melva and Marie Ella (Sachs) Baker. He graduated from Hickman High School. Tom worked for State Farm Insurance Company, retiring after 41 years of dedicated service as a Senior Commercial Accounts Underwriter. He was not only well respected and highly knowledgeable, but also a mentor to his fellow coworkers. Mr. Baker was a member of The Knights of Columbus for many years. He enjoyed photography, woodworking, and technology, as well as maintaining his own tomato garden.

He is survived by his nephews and nieces, Billy Baker of Chicago, Ill., Donna and Allen Caldwell of Columbia, Sandie and Bill Stuby of Columbia, Pattie Kasper of Columbia, Marsha and Mike Royster of Warrenton, Jack and Kim Baker of Arizona, Patricia and Tim Kuraszeck of Chicago, Marie Wyzykowski of Chicago, Debbie and Rachid Sciortino of Chicago; an uncle, Fred Baker of Columbia; sister-in-law, Antoinette Baker of Chicago; and lifelong friend, Jack Henerforth of Columbia.

His parents, four brothers, one sister, one nephew, one niece and one great-niece died earlier.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Home at 1217 Business Loop 70 West. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
