Virginia Hanson Ladenson

COLUMBIA — Virginia Hanson Ladenson of Columbia died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011. She was 94.

Mrs. Ladenson was born in Larimore, N.D. After attending University of North Dakota, Miss Woods School (now Macalester College) and Northwestern University, she became a teacher, met and married Dr. Roland P. Ladenson on the eve of World War Ⅱ.

During their three years of subsequent forced separation, she moved to Columbia, where she joined the faculty of Stephens College. On Dr. Ladenson's return from the Pacific, they moved to Columbia, where they lived for the remainder of their lives.

Mrs. Ladenson was involved with many community organizations. She was an active member of Calvary Episcopal Church, where she was the first woman in Missouri to be a member of the vestry, the church's leadership group.

Mrs. Ladenson is survived by her two sons, Paul William and his wife, Martha, of Baltimore, and Reid Baker and his wife, Patty, of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Ann Ladenson Garrison and her husband, Leslie, of Arlington, Va.; seven grandchildren, Mark Milton Ladenson and Melissa Irene Ladenson of Baltimore, Ronald Blake Ladenson and Nathan Allen Ladenson of Omaha; Jessica Fox Garrison and Rebecca Hanson Garrison of New York; and Lucas Roland Garrison of Arlington, Va.; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Calvary Episcopal Church, 123 S. Ninth St.

Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Ladenson to the Dr. Roland P. and Virginia H. Ladenson Scholarship Fund of the Boone County Medical Society, Box 196, Columbia, MO 65201.
