Doris Ruth Brandt
Doris Ruth Brandt died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011. She was 94.
Her family and friends remember her as a gracious lady and will miss her ready smile and welcoming, positive manner.
Mrs. Brandt was born Doris Ruth Chase on Aug. 10, 1917, to Margaret and George Washington Chase in Jersey City, N.J. She was a graduate of Pratt Institute and worked in the fashion industry in New York City prior to her marriage to Frederick W. Brandt, Jr. on Feb. 28, 1942.
While living in New Jersey, Doris and Fred were members of the New Milford Presbyterian Church, where Mrs. Brandt was a member of the Women's Service League. She was a member of the New Milford Women's Club and the PTA for 25 years.
She continued her affiliation with the General Federation of Women's Clubs by joining the GFWC Tuesday Club after her move to Columbia in 2001.
Mrs. Brandt volunteered at the Columbia Public Library and The Wardrobe. She was a member of the Elosia Haseman Circle of the International Order of the King's Daughters and Sons, the First Presbyterian Church of Columbia and Circle Three.
Whether in her home state of New Jersey or in Missouri, Mrs. Brandt's favorite past-time was playing bridge with her neighbors and "the girls."
Her parents and husband died earlier.
Mrs. Brandt is survived by two daughters, Lois Wagner of Williamsburg, Va., and Janet Brandt of Columbia; a granddaughter, Susan Trentham, and her husband, David, of Flower Mound, Texas; and a great-grandson, Drew Trentham.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 16 Hitt St. Mrs. Brandt will be buried in Crest Haven Memorial Park in Clifton, N.J.
