Juanita Dailey loved animals, antiques and Elvis Presley
COLUMBIA — Juanita Dailey loved animals so much, when she couldn't have her own, she donated money to the Humane Society.
"She was a nice, caring person," her sister, Belinda Davenport, said. "She wanted to make sure animals were taken care of."
Juanita Pearl Dailey of Columbia died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011. She was 74.
She was born Jan. 1, 1937, in Boone County to Charles and Mattie Lee (Whitesides) Benedict.
On July 15, 1955, she married Carl Frederick Dailey, whom she called Fred or Freddie.
She was a family-oriented person. She was close with her husband, children, siblings, cousins and good friends, Davenport said.
When her children were young, she stayed at home to take care of them. Later, she worked in clothing retail and at the MU ticket office.
Mrs. Dailey enjoyed reading and going to flea markets to look at antiques. She liked to listen to country music, and Elvis Presley was her "favorite, favorite person," Davenport said.
Mrs. Dailey especially loved dogs. She had several Yorkshire terriers throughout her life.
Mrs. Dailey is survived by her son, Marty Dailey and his wife, Donna, of Fair Grove; two brothers, Jerry Benedict of Greeley, Colo., and David Benedict and his wife, Patricia, of Vicksbury, Mich.; two sisters, Belinda Davenport of Hallsville, and Linda Sue Cooper and her husband, Tom, of Columbia; and four grandchildren, Jamie, Brittany, Bradley and Alec.
Her husband, Fred Dailey; her son, Robert Dailey; her parents, Charles and Mattie Lee Benedict; two brothers, Terry Benedict and Lloyd Benedict; two sisters, Daisy Chrisman and Sarah Roberts; and a longtime friend, Betty Baysinger, died earlier.
