C. Dean Monroe
COLUMBIA — C. Dean Monroe of Columbia died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008. He was 85.
He was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Selma, Kan., to Clarence and Osa (Steele) Monroe.
Dr. Monroe, a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine, served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He married Phyllis Turner on March 10, 1945, in Emporia, Kan.
Dr. Monroe moved to Columbia in 1967 to specialize in psychiatry after working for years as a general practitioner in many rural communities.
Dr. Monroe is survived by his four children, Jed Monroe of Round Rock, Texas, Thomas Monroe and Susan Schultz, both of Sturgeon, and Tana Burton of St. Peters; six grandchildren, Kelly, Corey, Jay, Jeff, Kyle and Patrick; two stepgrandchildren, Stephanie and Chris; and seven great-grandchildren.
His wife; a brother, Louis Arden Monroe; and a sister, Oleta Alice McClure, died earlier.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W., and will be followed by services with military honors. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
