Arthur L. Hampton

COLUMBIA — Arthur L. Hampton of Columbia died Friday, April 25, 2008, at his home. He was 77.
Mr. Hampton was born April 28, 1930, in Columbia, Ky., to Arthur and Mary Irene Hampton.
He married Helen Swearengen on Nov. 27, 1953.
Mr. Hampton served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 280 of Columbia. He also was involved in the Optimist Club and American Legion, and he retired from State Farm Insurance after many years of work.
He is remembered by family for his quick wit and love of sports and fishing.
Mr. Hampton is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jeanene Stringham of Columbia and Janet Mueller-Alsup of Lake St. Louis; one son, Greg Hampton of Bolivar; and five grandchildren.
A son, John Arthur Hampton, died earlier.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military honors provided by VFW Post 280.
