Michael "Troy" Gordon

Michael “Troy” Gordon of Harrisburg died Friday, April 25, 2008. He was 47.
Mr. Gordon was born Aug. 18, 1960, in Independence, to Milo Jack and Maxine Isabell (Matteson) Gordon. He graduated from the University of Missouri—Kansas City with a bachelor’s degree in Middle Eastern studies. He worked in libraries until his first daughter was born, when he became a stay-at-home dad.
Mr. Gordon volunteered for many groups, including the Big Muddy National Fish and Wildlife Refuge, Missouri River Relief, Missouri Master Naturalist and the Missouri Department of Conservation.
He was a master hummingbird bander and also gave many presentations on hummingbirds and river animals to schools and groups. He enjoyed traveling, camping and contra dancing.
Mr. Gordon is survived by his wife, Janine; two daughters, Jasmine and Genely; a sister, Linda Hester; two half-sisters, Suzanne Smith and Sandy Gedminas; a half-brother, Fred L. Ehman; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Shelter House at Arrow Rock State Historic Site. A short service and sharing of memories will begin around 3:15 p.m.
