David H. Hickman High School, established in 1927, is home of the purple and gold Kewpies. It is the largest high school in Missouri and represents students from nearly 40 countries.

The culturally diverse school has won "numerous recognitions for its strong academic and co-curricular programs," according to the school's 2008-09 profile. Hickman offers traditional, honors and Advanced Placement classes. Its average ACT composite score for 2009-10 was 22.4. The school has had more Presidential Scholars — a program that recognizes distinguished graduating seniors throughout the U.S. — than any other public high school in the country, according to the school's Wikipedia page.

Hickman has also had success in athletics. In the 1990s, Hickman won six state championships in baseball, women's swimming, men's track, men's cross country and men's tennis.
