At Good Shepherd Lutheran School, teachers and mentors prompt students to follow a path of faith and responsibility.
Principal Greg Hasseldahl said the intent of the school’s curriculum is to “help boys and girls understand their relationship with Jesus Christ — and their families too.”
The 98 students in grades kindergarten through seven at Good Shepherd Lutheran have a few extracurricular options that Hasseldahl said allow them to have alternative sources of positive adult mentorship beyond classroom instruction. Boys can join the Cub Scout Pack, which holds den meetings, goes camping and takes field trips. C.O.O.L, which stands for Christ Over Our Lives, is the complementary girls’ organization. The girl’s group is patterned after groups such as the Girl Scout troops.
“(The benefit of these groups is) that kids interact with other adults who care about them and (give) them the same message as teachers at school and parents at home — that you can grow up to know Jesus Christ. You can grow up to be a responsible, decision-making adult,” Hasseldahl said.
Students interested in athletics can also show their pride for the Good Shepherd Rams by joining the boys and girls basketball teams.
Good Shepherd Lutheran holds an open house on the third Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
“We call it T to the 4th power,” Hasseldahl said. “Third Thursday at ten and two.”
