Pete Buck pitched eight strong innings for the first-place Gateway Grizzlies in a 5-3 victory over the Mid-Missouri Mavericks Monday in Sauget, Ill.
Buck allowed only four hits and one earned run while striking out six to improve to 10-7. Jimmy Reiter hit a home run for the Grizzlies.
Brian Ross (1-3) picked up the loss, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings.
The Mavs’ Seth Brown had two hits.
The loss was the fourth in a row for Mid-Missouri who fell to 30-54.
