The few fans remaining at Taylor Stadium on Thursday night gave Wes Fewell a standing ovation as he walked off the field in the ninth inning.

Fewell played every position. He started the game at catcher, then played each spot on the infield, played the outfield and pitched during the ninth. It was about the only thing left for the fans to cheer for on fan appreciation day.

Cook County pounded the Mavericks 19-1.

Fewell went 1-for-3 on the night and had the only RBI for Mid-Missouri. He gave up four runs on three hits in 2/3 innings. Fewell also walked two batters and struck out one.

Kevin Brown hit a two-run home run off of Fewell before he retired a batter. Brown set the Frontier League record for strike-outs earlier in the game when he struck out for the 107th time.

Starter Jared Wood's troubles began in the fifth inning. After a lead-off single by Adonis Smith, Taylor Pullins reached on an infield single. Wood was then chased after walking two batters. He left the game with the score tied at 1 and the bases loaded. Kelly Martin relieved Wood and allowed four more runs to score.

The pitching struggles continued in the sixth inning. Martin allowed the first three batters to reach base. Brian Ross then relieved Martin. Ross allowed a single and Mark Walker's sacrifice fly extended the Cheetahs' lead to 7-1.

Rain delayed the game for an hour and 39 minutes. Before the teams took the field, the lights were turned off for a fireworks display. The game ended a few minutes shy of midnight.

The Mavs (32-55) scored early. After a pair of singles by Joe Nichols and Cooper Vittitow, Fewell hit a sacrifice fly to right field, which allowed Nichols to score. That gave the Mavericks an early 1-0 lead.

Wood worked out of a jam in the first inning. After striking out Warren Gaspar, Wood walked Stuart Rykaleski and gave up a single to Walker. Then he walked Sean Bischofberger to load the bases. Wood struck out Brown and got Ryan Larson to ground to short to end the inning.

The Cheetahs' scoring continued in the eighth when Gaspar hit a three-run home run.

The Mavericks used seven pitchers in its final home game. Grant Dorn relieved Fewell in the ninth to record the final out.
