None hurt in fifth shooting in 2 weeks

Gunshots were exchanged between two people in Columbia on Wednesday, marking the fifth shooting in two weeks.

A man told police he was driving on Hanover Boulevard when another man got out of his car and fired several shots at him, Columbia Police Capt. Zim Schwartze said.

The man then chased the gunman in his car but couldn’t stop him, police said. Schwartze said the two men knew each other and may have been arguing recently. No injuries were reported.

“These two have apparently not been getting along lately,” Schwartze said.

Wednesday’s shooting appears to be unrelated to shootings reported in Columbia on Aug. 24, Sept. 3, Saturday and Sunday, Schwartze said.

Jerol Jermaine Lee, 22, was arrested during a traffic stop after Sunday night’s shooting, which happened around 7:30 p.m. near Worley Street and Garth Avenue.

A 15-year-old was arrested Monday in connection with the Sept. 3 shooting of 22-year-old man at Pendleton Street and Garth Avenue. The 22-year-old man was treated at University Hospital and released.

“We’re hoping that things will kind of quiet down,” Schwartze said.
