Greg Winscott, who works in the ticket office at the Hearnes Center, has been doing his share of apologizing lately.
The calls keep coming from fans in search of the hottest ticket in town: the last men’s basketball game in the Hearnes Center on Sunday against the Kansas Jayhawks.
“I received 10 calls in two hours Monday from fans still wanting tickets,” Winscott said
Every seat for the game is long gone. It’s the sixth sellout of the season at Hearnes, which has a capacity of 13,611.
Tickets are still being offered for sale on the World Wide Web — but you better have deep pockets. National-events.com is asking the lofty price of $825 each for third row seats; $415 for seventh row, and $190 for general admission.
Matt Price, founder of the defunct Missouri Ticket Co., said he usually sells his tickets through classifieds. He has two general admission tickets for $75 each. Price said he gets his tickets, like everyone else, from the MU ticket office.
The back of all MU basketball tickets states that “the ticket is a revocable license and may not be resold.” But don’t be surprised to find scalpers plying their trade on game day.
MU police Capt. Brian Weimer said he is not aware of any previous arrests for scalping MU athletic tickets. “We will be busy with other things,” he said, “and that is not our top priority.”
