Tigers take 11th at Big 12 finals

The Missouri men’s golf team finished 11th at the Big 12 Conference Championships in Hutchinson, Kan., on Tuesday.

Texas was the wire-to-wire winner with a three-day 865 total. The Longhorns have won the event three years in a row. MU finished at 920.

The Tigers entered the final round at the par-70 Prairie Dunes Golf Club in 10th place, but double-bogeys plagued the comeback effort.

Ben Scott, a sophomore, had the Tigers’ highest finish in 36th place.

HICKMAN SOCCER: In the second day of the St. Dominic/Francis Howell North Shootout, the Kewpies tied Francis Howell North at 1. Midfielder Lindsay Oetker scored for Hickman (11-21) in the first half on Janelle Cordia’s assist.

ROCK BRIDGE TENNIS: Senior Jon-Eric Meyer will sign a letter of intent to play at Northwest Missouri State University at 3:15 p.m. Thursday in the Rock Bridge performance arts center lobby.

HICKMAN BASEBALL: The Kewpies defeated Mexico 12-4.

Hickman (7-6) started quickly with four runs in the first inning, including solo home runs from Joe Gaboury and Eric Schultz. Gaboury had three RBIs and was 3-for-3. Justin Jackson drove in two and pitcher Casey McIntosh earned his first win.

ROCK BRIDGE GOLF: The Bruins defeated Hannibal 149-157 at the par-36 Norwood Golf Club in Hannibal. Andrew Ducharme and the Pirates’ Brian Scott tied for first at 36. Jeff Pope came in third with 37. Thomas Schuenemeyer and Ben Lake were 3-over for fourth.

COLUMBIA COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Megan Kuntze was named American Midwest Conference Player of the Week.

In the Cougars’ two wins last week, she had four hits in seven at-bats for three doubles and three RBIs.

Monica Mueller, a junior, was named Pitcher of the Week. In 11 innings, she allowed no earned runs and struck out 16. She gave up four hits and three walks.

The Cougars remain No. 7 in this week’s NAIA Top 25 poll. Columbia College begins its postseason with a bye in the first round of the AMC Conference Softball Tournament. The Cougars’ first game will be at 1:45 p.m. Friday. All tournament games will be played at Cosmopolitan Park.

COLUMBIA COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Mandy Jorgenson, a senior at Harrisburg High, signed a letter of intent. Jorgenson is a 5-foot-10 guard who averaged 12.2 points and 3.2 steals per game. She helped Harrisburg win two conference championships.
