Tigers push streak to five

ARLINGTON, Texas — Garrett Broshuis allowed six hits over 6 2/3 innings to remain unbeaten, and the Missouri Tigers won their fifth straight game by beating Oklahoma Sooners 9-5 on Wednesday in the Big 12 Conference Tournament.

Missouri (35-20) will meet Baylor today at 5 p.m. Oklahoma (36-21) will face Texas Tech today at 10 a.m.

Broshuis (10-0) took a 6-0 lead into the seventh before two Tigers errors led to four unearned runs on Jeff Scuderi’s two-run double and Ole Sheldon’s two-run single.

Another run scored in the seventh on reliever Mark Alexander’s bases-loaded walk to make it 6-5.

Broshuis struck out five and walked one. Alexander pitched the final 2 1/3 innings for his 10th save.

Missouri’s Brad Flanders had a sacrifice fly in a two-run second, and the Tigers made it 4-0 in the fourth on Ryan Rallo’s two-run single.

Sooners starter David Purcey walked the bases loaded in the fifth, and Missouri capitalized, extending its advantage to 6-0 on Flanders’ RBI double and Gary Arndt’s sacrifice fly.

Purcey (8-5) allowed six runs and six hits over 4 1-3 innings. He walked six, hit two batters and struck out five.

Arndt had an RBI double in a three-run ninth as Missouri padded its lead to 9-5.

Baylor 8, Texas Tech 3

Trey Taylor pitched seven strong innings, and Mike Pankratz hit a two-run home run as Baylor snapped Texas Tech’s six-game winning streak.

Texas Tech finished the regular season with a team batting average of .318, but the Red Raiders managed three runs and eight hits off Taylor (6-3).

Oklahoma St. 6, Texas A&M 5

Chris Gutierrez drove in the go-ahead run with an eighth-inning single, and Oklahoma State snapped a four-game losing streak.

With the game tied at 5, Rod Allen reached second on Aggie shortstop Cliff Pennington’s two-base error. Allen, who went 3-for-4, moved to third on a balk by reliever Blake Rampy (2-2) to set up Gutierrez’s tiebreaking hit.

Thomas Cowley (6-3) pitched his third complete game of the season for the Cowboys, allowing 11 hits. He struck out five and walked one.

Oklahoma State (34-22) plays at 8 p.m. Thursday against Nebraska, a 5-2 winner against Texas. Texas A&M (39-18) meets Texas at 1 p.m. Thursday.
