Public fund raising in new campaign would not begin until 2011.
KANSAS CITY — MU’s next fund-raising goal is $1 billion, Chancellor Richard Wallace said Thursday at a meeting of the University of Missouri Board of Curators.
He made the announcement in response to UM system President Elson Floyd’s presentation about the system’s strategic planning goals. Those goals include raising $1 billion over the next five years.
“We probably, as a four-campus system, need to think beyond a billion dollars,” said Wallace during a break in the meeting.
“For All We Call Mizzou,” MU’s current campaign to raise $600 million, will not end until December 2005. Wallace stressed the new campaign will not begin its formal planning stage until January 2006.
After two years of planning, the campaign would enter a quiet phase in January 2008, Wallace said. The public phase will then begin in January 2011 and would most likely conclude in December 2014.
Wallace said that neither the dates nor the amounts are set in stone.
“One thing that is for sure in my mind, we may change the number, we may change the time period, we may change some of the dates, but we’ll do another one and it will be bigger than (the current campaign),” the chancellor said.
Should the goal stay at $1 billion, it would be the largest campaign undertaken by MU, Wallace said.
During the same meeting, curators passed a motion to name the plaza north of the new Paige Sports Arena after the family of Curator Don Walsworth. The honor is to recognize the family’s contributions to MU’s athletic community.
