Groups gather across nation to discuss ‘Fahrenheit 9/11’

The movie just hit theaters but one local family didn’t need to wait for the DVD release to host a party for it.

Kevin and Elizabeth Allemann’s home in Harrisburg was one of more than 2,000 homes across the United States in which Americans gathered Monday night to hear Michael Moore speak about how to put his latest movie, “Fahrenheit 9/11,” into action.

“The movie made me hopeful that people will clarify their outrage and turn it into action,” Elizabeth Allemann said.

During the National Town Meeting, which was sponsored by the political action committee MoveOn PAC, attendees listened to Moore speak via phone and the Internet about how just seeing his movie is not enough. He encouraged people to put their anger towards the Bush administration into action by helping organize a political campaign to register voters and to sway their votes against Bush.

To this end, the group is organizing phone parties for volunteers to call American citizens on July 11 and urge them to register to vote.
