The Mid-Missouri Mavericks prevailed, 15-11, against the Windy City ThunderBolts in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday at Taylor Stadium for their sixth victory on the season.
The Mavericks lost the first game 15-14 in nine innings. Both games had been scheduled for seven innings.
The Mavs (6-35), who had 11 hits in their victory, finished off the ThunderBolts (23-16) with a four-run sixth inning that featured a two-RBI single from Bobby Matthews.
John Paul Glascock (1-4) got the win, coming in for starter John Picco in the first inning.
Joe Nichols hit a two-run home run for the Mavericks in the fifth.
The ThunderBolts’ Nick Johnson tried to rally his team in the seventh with a three-run home run, but the Mavericks held on for the win.
In the first game, Thomari Story-Harden hit a solo home run in the seventh to tie the game at 14.
Two innings later, the ThunderBolts’ Roger Wiens scored the winner on Gilbert Barry’s single.
The Mavs had seven errors in the first game. Damon Burkhart, who committed two, went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, including a two-run home run in the second.
Blake Blase had a three-run home run in the fourth. The Mavericks scored five runs in the inning. Worth Scott’s two-RBI single tied at 10.
The Mavericks had trailed 8-0 after the first inning.
