Knocking on Hearnes’ door

Bob Dylan will perform at the Hearnes Center on Oct. 27. Tickets go on sale this Thursday.

Kevin Walsh, store manager of Streetside Records, plans on seeing Dylan perform with his band for the fourth time next month in Columbia.

“The sound in Hearnes last time was terrific,” Walsh said. “His musicianship always surprises people.”

“It’s not like you’re going to see a greatest hits show,” he added.

Richard King, owner of The Blue Note, brokered the deal in a joint effort with KBIA and the Hearnes Center.

He said it was finalized on Friday after two weeks of negotiations but refused to disclose what it cost to book Dylan, known to some as rock ’n’ roll’s greatest songwriter.

“It’s about relationships we continue to build with agents and record companies,” King said. “This one is a great thing.”

Five thousand tickets will go on sale at noon on Thursday at the Blue Note’s box office for $27.50 or $37.50.

Other ticket vendors include the Hearnes Center Box Office and other Ticketmaster locations around town. MU students receive a $5 discount.

Julie Graff, director of special events marketing and booking with the MU Athletic Department, said Paige Sports Arena isn’t slated to open until Nov. 1, making it impossible to hold the Dylan show there. Graff said she expects an even larger crowd than the last time Dylan came to the Hearnes Center, which was on April 24, 2001.

The tour, titled “Live and in Person,” will be a one-month, 16-show college road trip starting Oct. 14 at Santa Clara University in California and ending Nov. 4 at Ohio State University.
