PrintMissouri linebacker David Richard is suspended for disciplinary reasons for Saturday’s game against Colorado, coach Gary Pinkel announced Monday at his weekly press conference.
Richard, 21, was arrested at 2:40 a.m. Sept. 11 on suspicion of misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Richard was not listed on the depth chart released Monday. Marcus Bacon will start in his place.
According to a Columbia Police Department report, the arrest was made in the 2500 block of Providence Road South.
Police, dispatched to a report of a party in the off-campus neighborhood, heard loud music coming from a parked car, a 1999 Dodge Intrepid registered to Richard.
Officers found what they suspected to be a small bag of marijuana and a marijuana cigarette in the vehicle occupied by Richard and another man.
Both men were arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor marijuana possession. The second suspect was not a football player, police said.
A Missouri State Highway Patrol lab was testing the contents of the cigarette and bag to confirm if it was marijuana.
The Boone County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said charges have not been filed, but the deadline to do so is at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 28.
The Tigers (2-1) play Colorado (3-0) at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
Associate Athletic Director Sarah Reesman said after a player is arrested on suspicion of a misdemeanor, he must notify his coach about the arrest. An immediate suspension from athletic competition ensues until the player meets with the coach and athletic director.
In that meeting, the coach and athletic director will decide whether the suspension will be lifted or modified.
The arrest occurred two days after Missouri lost 24-14 at Troy. Richard started but played sparingly against Ball State a week after the arrest.
Richard, a transfer from Michigan State and native of St. Louis, has started every game for the Tigers at strong side linebacker. Richard has made six tackles.
BAYLOR GAME TELEVISED: The Big 12 announced Monday the Tigers will play Baylor on Oct. 9 at 9 p.m. on Fox Sports Net.
It is the third time this season the Tigers have appeared on television.
