PrintA downpour of rain didn’t keep Hickman running back Brandon Kendrick from compiling 192 yards rushing in the first half against the Rock Bridge Bruins on Friday.
Kendrick’s three touchdowns paced the No. 1-ranked Kewpies, who finished with a 35-0 win against the cross-town Rock Bridge Bruins at Memorial Stadium.
The senior had only two carries in the second half, both for no gain.
His first touchdown came on Hickman’s third play of the game, a 56-yard run with 7:02 left on the clock.
He scored again 44 seconds later, this time with a 32-yard touchdown run.
“I felt as though coming into this game, I would have a good game,” Kendrick said. “This was better than I expected.”
Quarterback Andrew Perkins ran for a touchdown at the beginning of the second quarter and Aaron Cawlfield ran for a touchdown of his own on the Kewpies’ next drive. Kendrick then capped off his night with a 71-yard score with 5:48 remaining in the half.
Bruins’ quarterback Logan Gray completed 10 of 27 passes for 71 yards. In the first eight games of his sophomore season, Gray has averaged 221.5 passing yards per game.
Hickman’s only other score was a 33-yard field goal by Nick Timberlake.
The game was called when lightning and a heavy rain forced the teams off the field with 2:20 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Bruins fell to 5-4 on the season and will host district rival Fort Zumwalt West in the final game of their season on Nov. 5.
The Kewpies (7-1, 2-0) will travel to Jefferson City for a game with the Jays. A Hickman victory would guarantee them a chance to play in the post-season.
