Behind a dominating performance from senior Charliss Ridley, the Cougars picked up their second win of the season, beating Olivet Nazarene University 98-91 in Bourbonnais, Ill.
Ridley, a forward, finished with 33 points and 12 rebounds and Lisa Kowalewski added 17 points for Columbia College (2-0).
After outscoring Olivet Nazarene 51-34 in the first half, the Cougars allowed 57 points in the second half, allowing the Tigers to pull within seven. But the Cougars’ strong first half, coupled with a 48 percent shooting percentage for the night, proved enough for a Columbia College team ranked No. 13 in the NAIA preseason poll.
“We were sloppy with the ball and didn’t handle the ball as well as we would’ve liked,” coach Mike Davis said. “But we shot well, and it was nice to get a win.”
The Cougars will play MidAmerica Nazarene University on Saturday in the team’s home opener.
