Extra points: Hickman boys' basketball

Kewpies drop their first game of the young season.

McCluer North beat Hickman 87-77 in Washington, Mo., on Saturday. The win gave McCluer third place in the Gold Division of the St. Francis Borgia Thanksgiving Tournament.

Michael Washington led the Kewpies (2-1) with 21 points. Torres Roundtree scored 25 for the Stars (1-2).

Turnovers and the resulting layups defined the game’s pace. Hickman had 21 turnovers, while McCluer North yielded 22.

The Kewpies shot 63 percent from the field; the Stars’ 56 percent.

Hickman’s Patrick Phillips scored 20, Taylor Florence had 19 and Kyle Smith had 18. Florence also grabbed four rebounds.

The Kewpies opened the tournament Tuesday with a win against Washington, but fell to Lafayette on Friday.
