PrintThe MU Honors College received a $300,000 gift as part of the “For All We Call Mizzou” fund-raising campaign.
The gift, a scholarship endowment made by James and Catherine Brazeal of Leawood, Kan., is meant to help the university attract and retain minority students, enhance access to education and support undergraduate research and international study, according to a release from the MU News Bureau.
James Brazeal earned a bachelor’s degree in history from MU in 1967 and a master’s degree in 1969. The Brazeal Honors College Endowed Diversity Scholarship provides one student with a maximum of $12,500 per year for tuition, books and housing.
The student also will receive up to $2,500 to participate in the Honors College Discovery Fellows Program, which pairs students with faculty members to work on research projects or activities pertaining to the student’s major.
The scholarship also provides up to $6,000 for studying abroad.
The MU Honors College, established in 1959, is one of the oldest in the nation, offering the university’s top incoming students the opportunity to interact with faculty members and other honors students to promote academic success.
Students must meet the Honors College admissions requirements in order to be eligible for the Honors College Endowed Diversity Scholarship.
