The first night of the 25th annual Cat Classic finished with two Tigers taking home the top honors.
The Towson Tigers took second place in the team competition and MU grabbed first Friday night with a score of 195.250.
No. 24 Missouri prevailed over Towson's 192.650, New Hampshire's 192.850, and Illinois State's 187.900.
"I thought it was a fantastic meet," coach Rob Drass said. "We have that swagger back, that confidence back."
Senior Alisha Robinson placed second (39.150) in the all-around competition to New Hampshire's Amanda Hall (39.250). Freshman Ashley Khederian placed fourth with a 38.875.
The ten best performers from each individual event move on from Friday's competition to Saturday's finals. Four MU gymnasts will compete on the vault finals, five on the parallel bars, three on the beam, and six on the floor exercise.
"The important thing is we hit our routines," Drass said, "when you do that stuff you're going to win a lot of meets."
The top score from each individual event was won by an MU Tiger. Junior Lauren Schwartzman led the flor exercise and beam, Robinson led the vault and junior Jodie Heinicka led on the bars.
The Cat Classic continues tonight at 7 in the Hearnes Center. Individual titles will be awarded based on the night's performances.
