For the first time, Boone Hospital Center has been named as one of the nation’s top 100 hospitals by Modern Healthcare magazine.
Mike Shirk, president of Boone Hospital Center, shared the news Monday night at the hospital’s Board of Trustees meeting.
Modern Healthcare partnered with Solucient, a health care industry consulting company, to compile the list. The list awards hospitals for their performance during 2004.
Hospitals are divided into five categories based on size and whether they are teaching hospitals. Boone Hospital Center fits into the category of large community hospital, meaning it has 250 or more beds available for patients.
To create the list, Solucient utilizes data from different areas of hospital, such as its financial reports, the average length of stay for a patient and the mortality rate of hospital patients.
“This is largely based on publicly available data,” said Sharon Parmet, spokesperson for Solucient.
This data is put into an equation that analyzes all the factors and determines the best hospitals in each category. Hospitals don’t pay any fee to be considered and are not visited during the process.
Two other Missouri hospitals made the list, St. John’s in Springfield and St. Luke’s in Chesterfield. Both have been on the list in previous years.
