Almost a year later than they had hoped, the Tigers will play in Kansas City.

Missouri will begin its 2005 season at Arrowhead Stadium, the site of last season’s Big 12 Championship. Missouri had hoped to reach that game but failed to do so following a 5-6 season.

Arkansas State, which has never played at Arrowhead, will be the home team when the game kicks off Sept. 3 at 11 a.m. Missouri last played there 60 years ago.

“We are excited to be a part of hosting this event,” Dr. Dean Lee, Arkansas State’s athletic director, said in a press release.

MU SOFTBALL: Micaela Minner, a redshirt freshman, was named Big 12 player of the week Tuesday.

She helped the Tigers win the Louisville Courtyard Marriott Red & Black Classic by batting .615 for the tournament.

Among her eight hits in the four games were two doubles and a game-winning home run in the tournament final against Iowa.

Missouri next plays Saturday at 10 a.m. in Kansas City. The Tigers face Southeast Missouri State in the Coaches Versus Cancer Tournament.

Missouri’s game scheduled for tonight at Evansville has been cancelled due to a forecast of bad weather.

MU MEN’S GOLF: The Tigers finished eighth at the University of Texas-San Antonio Intercollegiate at Oak Hills Country Club on Tuesday.

Junior Chris Mabry shot an even-par 213 in the two-day event to tie for fifth place among individuals.

DOUGLASS BASKETBALL: Eighth-seeded Douglass lost 59-19 to Salisbury Monday night in the first round of the Class 2 District 7 tournament.

The Bulldogs end their season at 8-17.

Salisbury, the top-seeded team and district host, was led by Scott Humphrey’s 21 points. The Panthers improved to 25-0.

MID-MISSOURI SPARKS: The Sparks defeated the AFLAC Lady Panthers 32-29 on Sunday to win the Show-Me State Games winter basketball tournament.

The team competed in the fifth-grade girls’ competitive division. Danielle Ingrum led the Sparks with 16 points.
