Missouri’s track and softball teams made themselves at home on the road this week with strong showings.
The men’s and women’s track and field teams finished sixth at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Lincoln, Neb.
Three Tigers captured individual titles. Shot-putter Conrad Woolsey was the lone men’s titlist, with a throw of 63 feet, 3 3/4 inches. Ashley Patton won the 1,000-meter run, and Trisa Nickoley won the 800.
Nickoley, who was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year this week, earned a second title as part of the women’s distance medley relay team with Amanda Bales, Kristin Hansen and Whittney Stuart.
The men’s distance medley relay team also won. The team included Ryan Hampton, Jimmie Jones, Neville Miller and Tipper O’Brien.
MU softball defeated Iowa 3-1 in extra innings Feb. 27 to win the Louisville Red & Black Classic.
Redshirt freshman Micaela Minner earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors by batting .615 in the tournament, including the winning home run in the final game.
Tiger golfers were also on the road this week. They finished eighth at the University of Texas-San Antonio Intercollegiate at Oak Hills Country Club.
Chris Mabry shot an even 213 in the two-day event and finished tied for fifth.
Six Tiger wrestlers were honored this week for academic achievement. Ben Askren, Clint Freeman, Tyler McCormick and Tyron Woodley earned first-team All Academic All Big 12 Conference honors.
Austin DeVoe and Tim Kephart earned second-team honors.
