Lyndi Manson schedules her life by the hour.

Manson, 22, is a senior at MU and majoring in textile and apparel management. Her time management skills are being put to the test in her last semester as she juggles 21 hours of classes (most students take around 15) and an internship.

“I keep a daily calendar so I know what is going on every hour of my day,” Manson said.

Manson came to MU four years ago because of the school’s reputation and was excited to meet people from many different backgrounds. One memory she’ll never forget is of her first homecoming at MU.

“I didn’t realize how huge of a deal it was for MU,” she said.

Most of her time away from school in Columbia has been spent at Dillard’s in the Columbia Mall. She worked at the store before this semester, and when she needed an additional elective credit, she saw an opportunity to connect her major to real-life experience.

This semester, in addition to continuing her job as Prescriptives analyst, Manson is an intern at Dillard’s with an area sales manager in the cosmetics department. She said the internship earns her credit through MU and teaches her how to manage cosmetics sales teams and create special events for the department.

Manson said internships like this help MU students connect to the community.

“It is getting our students into the work force of Columbia and helping students get hands-on experience,” she said.

Manson is involved with other special events associated with the store, such as Beauty Week. She hopes to find a job that allows her to travel.
