A former Barton County Community College assistant men’s basketball coach pleaded not guilty Wednesday to federal charges that he falsified academic credentials and work-study time sheets for athletes, including former Missouri player Randy Pulley.

Mark Skillman, 30, of Russellville, Ark., entered his plea at an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Wichita, Kan.

Skillman worked under former men’s coach Ryan Wolf, who faces 38 federal charges of fraud and embezzlement. Former Missouri player Ricky Clemons is among those Wolf is accused of helping improperly.

BIG 12 TENNIS:

The No. 9-seeded Tigers advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championships in Austin, Texas after Erika Josbena beat Oklahoma State’s Jessica Collins 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 to beat the Cowboys 4-3.

The Tigers (15-8) face No. 1 seed Baylor at 9 a.m. today.

MU SWIMMING:

After 40 years of swimming history, an event celebrating the closing of Missouri’s Natatorium would only be proper.

The Missouri men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs will hold the “Last Lap at the Nat” on Saturday. The all-day event for swimming and diving alumni begins at 9 a.m.

“We thought it’d be a fun way to bring back alumni,” coach Brian Hoffer said.

A silent auction will also be held. The auction will feature Missouri memorabilia, a chance to swim the first race at the new Mizzou Aquatic Center and other prizes. The money raised by the auction will go to swimming programs.

MU TRACK & FIELD:

Juniors Tim Ross and Valerie Lauver excelled in the 5,000 meters at the Drake Relays, both qualifying for the NCAA Mideast Regional. Ross was fifth in 14 minutes, 14 seconds in the men’s race and Lauver was 10th in a personal best 16:49.43 in the women’s race.
