The Missouri baseball team upset Texas 7-2 on Saturday to even the weekend series in Austin, Texas, at a game apiece.

No. 14 Missouri (31-12) scored three runs in the second and eighth innings to beat the No. 1 Longhorns after losing 4-1 on Friday night. The Tigers hadn’t won in Austin since 2001.

Sophomore Gary Arndt was 3-for-4, and freshman Jacob Priday was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

The final game of the series will be played at 1 p.m. today with junior Doug Mathis slated to pitch.

COLUMBIA COLLEGE SOFTBALL:

The Cougars won the American Midwest Conference Tournament in Springfield, Ill., beating William Woods 5-0 in the championship game.

Senior pitcher Kerri Gapka allowed five hits. Heather Lang went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Columbia College (45-15) went undefeated in its four games, outscoring their opponents 21-3. Coach Wendy Spratt said the wins should secure the No. 1 seed in the Region V tournament that will begin May 9 in Springfield, Mo.

ROCK BRIDGE BOYS’ TENNIS:

The Bruins were fifth at the eight-team Tournament of Champions in St. Louis with 39 points.

Rockhurst won with 65.

HICKMAN AND ROCK BRIDGE GIRLS’ SWIMMING:

The Kewpies were second with 305 points, and the Bruins were ninth with 97 at the 27th annual Springfield Invitational. Parkway South won the 22-team event with 410.

Hickman had three winners.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Marie Pope, Mary Sheahen, Chelsea Laun and Claire Piester won in 1:57.46. Pope, Sheahen, Piester and Julie Schenker won the 400-freestyle relay in 3:45.47.

MU TRACK & FIELD:

The men’s distance medley-relay team earned the best finish by a Missouri team at the Drake Relays since 1973.

Ryan Hampton and sophomores Tipper O’Brien, Jimmie Jones and Marcus Mayes placed third with a time of 9:43.53 on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.

Junior Amanda Bales placed fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:22.90, the best time for a collegian in the race.

Christian Cantwell, an MU post-collegian, earned second in the shot put, finishing two centimeters behind the winner.

MU MEN’S GOLF:

The Tigers are in third place after the second round of the Big 12 Conference Championships at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.
