A story on page 5A Friday about the wearing of a red poppy on Memorial Day contained several inaccuracies. The poem, “In Flanders Field,” was written by Lt. Col. John McCrae of the Canadian army. It inspired Moina Michael to write a poem about red poppies and heroes, and she launched the tradition of wearing a red poppy on Memorial Day as a sign of remembrance.

A story on page 1A Thursday about illegal gambling devices contained incorrect information supplied by the source. The Missouri Gaming Commission is seeing an increase over last year in the number of complaints about illegal gambling devices in Boone County.
