One less Thirsty Turtle is on the streets of Columbia.

Thirsty Turtle II closed its doors May 27 because the property was sold to Copper Beech Townhome Communities, a Pennsylvania limited liability company. The company is owned by Menno and Evelyn Toews.

Copper Beech Townhome Communities is planning to develop an apartment complex at 3111 S. Old U.S. 63, the former location of the Turtle.

Thirsty Turtle owner Andy Vrooman said he wants to open again at another location but has no idea yet where that might be.

“Right now we’re just working on getting this one closed,” Vrooman said.

The first Thirsty Turtle is still open at 916 Business Loop 70 E.

A spokesperson for Copper Beach Townhome Communities was not available for comment.
