New job means he'll leave community services post

Phil Steinhaus will be the new chief executive officer of the Columbia Housing Authority.

Steinhaus was chosen by the authority’s board of commissioners to replace former Executive Director Doris Chiles, who retired Sept. 30. Commission Chairman Marvin Kinney announced the decision Friday morning.

Steinhaus has served as the Community Services director for the city of Columbia for the past 12 years, where he staffed the Community Services Advisory Commission, the Human Rights Commission and the Substance Abuse Advisory Commission. The job required coordinating city and county funding for social services agencies.

Steinhaus will be paid a base salary of $85,000 per year plus benefits at the housing authority. He will begin his new position Jan. 16.
