A 1993 Ford Ranger got an unexpected lift Tuesday afternoon, thanks to a black Honda Accord that wedged itself underneath the white truck at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Street.

No one was injured in the accident.

The eastbound lane of Broadway between Seventh and Eighth streets was closed for about 45 minutes, until the vehicles were separated and removed by a tow truck.

Dottie Dierking, the driver of the pickup, said police arrived shortly after she was hit at 2:37 p.m. to free her by prying the driver’s side door open.

She said she was stopped at the intersection behind a red truck when her vehicle was hit. After her pickup was hit by the Honda, her truck bumped the other truck, Dierking said; the driver of that truck drove away.

“I was stopped ... and the next thing I know, I was up in the air,” Dierking said.

The driver of the Honda, Joyce Miller, was issued a traffic ticket for running into another vehicle, said Columbia police Sgt. Brian Richenberger.

“I’m just thankful that lady wasn’t hurt,” Dierking said. “God was looking after us.”

Elaine Elliott said she had just stepped off the curb to cross Broadway when she heard a loud “ka-bang” that sounded like something heavy falling off the back of a truck.

“It was the most unusual thing I’ve ever seen,” Elliott said.
