Food Bank programs offer ways to give

Tuesday, December 27, 2005 | 12:00 a.m. CST

If you are looking for a way to give this holiday season, two programs associated with the Central Missouri Food Bank could be the answer.

Ending Saturday, the 10th annual Check-Out Hunger program is available at seven Columbia grocery stores. To donate, customers can use a scan card at the register to add a donation to their bill. The 2004 Check-Out Hunger campaign raised more than $18,000.

The Bread Basket Cafe’s Bread and Butter program donates 10 percent of all purchases before taxes to the food bank. This is the first year for the program, which runs through January.

The Central Missouri Food Bank provides free food to 142 non-profit hunger relief agencies throughout central and northeast Missouri.
