Occupants of two vehicles exchanged gunfire in a central Columbia neighborhood late Wednesday morning.
Columbia police said witnesses reported one vehicle appeared to be chasing the other going north on Jewell Avenue. The two cars then proceeded west on Highview Avenue, where the lead vehicle crashed into two parked cars. The second car also stopped and the occupants of both cars exchanged more gunfire, according to police .
Police don’t think anyone was hit by the gunfire. One passenger was taken to the hospital with neck injuries that police think were caused when the vehicle crashed on Highview Avenue.
No arrests had been made as of Wednesday evening. The driver of the lead vehicle escaped on foot; the second one drove away, and the vehicle was later found unoccupied.
Police were continuing to investigate.
