Emergency office calls public hearing on sirens

Columbia will hold a public hearing on the replacement and relocation schedule of emergency outdoor warning sirens at 7 p.m. Monday in the Council Chamber of the Daniel Boone City Building, 701 E. Broadway, according to a news release by the Columbia/Boone County Office of Emergency Management.

The release states that the public will have an opportunity to offer input on the issue, including the replacement schedule and specific locations affected by new siren placement.

The three-year quarter-cent capital improvement sales tax approved last November provides $15 million for public safety projects. Of this money, $310,000 is supposed to be used on sirens.

According to the release, some sirens will be moved to areas where development and growth is anticipated or where future city annexation and topographical considerations are needed.
