Alex Gittemeier didn’t get any eggs during the egg hunt. However, winning the sack race paid him back with an award in the form of five candies.

“It’s really fun,” Alex said after his victory.

Alex was one of about 200 people who came to Douglass Park on Saturday to enjoy the spring weather and hunt for Easter eggs.

“We have done this for several years,” said Cameren Cross, recreation supervisor from the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, the event’s sponsor. “This year, we have an egg hunt, face painting, coloring and other activities.”

Children were divided into three age groups, 1 to 4 years old, 5 to 8 and 9 to 12. They scrambled through the park on a mission to collect as many eggs as they could before all of the eggs were snatched up.

The pounding rhythms of the City Wide Drumline and Rhythm Band provided entertainment, along with cheerleaders and, of course, the Easter Bunny available for pictures.
