He will be starting in the third position at Talladega today
Carl Edwards finished 10th in Saturday’s Busch Series race. Martin Truex Jr. won the Aaron’s 312 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Edwards, a Columbia native, moved into third in the Busch point standings with the finish, 372 behind leader Kevin Harvick.
Edwards will start third in today’s Nextel Cup event at Talladega. Elliott Sadler won the pole in Saturday’s qualifying for the Aaron’s 499, a race that will require drivers to use power-sapping restrictor plates. Tony Stewart will start second and Dale Jarrett, who won at Talladega last October, will start fourth. Edwards turned in a 187.320 mph lap on the 2.66-mile Talladega oval. Sadler was at 188.511 and Stewart 187.658.
Defending race winner Jeff Gordon qualified 14th and Dale Earnhardt Jr., a five-time Talladega winner who will drive a car painted like the famed black Chevrolet his late father piloted, will start 27th.
Entering today’s race, Edwards is in 16th in the Nextel Cup standings with 822 points. Matt Kenseth leads with 1,218 and with Jimmie Johnson in second nine points behind him.
