Man is recovering after four-car crash that killed his wife.
Three people were recovering Monday afternoon from injuries suffered in two separate accidents involving tractor-trailers on Interstate 70 last week.
Kirt Card, 56, of Lincoln, Neb., was upgraded Monday afternoon to good condition after being listed in serious condition Saturday evening. He was involved in a four-car accident Friday morning. His wife, Cheryl Card, 54, and the driver of another vehicle, John Ferkel, 40, of St. Peters, were both killed in the accident.
The Cards and Ferkel were stopped in traffic east of Columbia when a tractor-trailer slammed into the back of the Cards’ car. Their car was knocked into a ditch, and the tractor-trailer smashed Ferkel’s minivan into another truck. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Carl West of Novinger, and the other truck driver, Robert Montgomery, 45, of Lakewood, Ohio, were not injured.
No charges had been filed as of early Monday evening, said Columbia police Sgt. Tim Moriarity.
A Marshall couple was recovering Monday from a weekend accident that happened when the car they were driving ran into the back of a tractor-trailer slowed or stopped in traffic on westbound I-70 about a mile east of the Route Z exit. William Boedeker, 84, was discharged from University Hospital on Saturday, and Bonnie Boedeker, 70, was listed in good condition late Monday afternoon.
Saturday’s rainy conditions may have contributed to the crash on I-70 near the Route Z exit, said Boone County Fire Protection District Division Chief Gale Blomenkamp.
