Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo., has officially announced his bid for re-election.

Talent went on an eight-city tour Friday and Saturday to announce his campaign for U.S. Senate, stopping in Columbia about 5 p.m. Friday. Before his speech, members of the Columbia community spoke in support of Talent’s stance on Medicare prescription drug coverage and his sponsorship of the Combat Meth Act.

U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof, R-Mo., and U.S. Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., also spoke at the event.

Talent is expected to face Democratic front-runner State Auditor Claire McCaskill in November’s election.
