Two Columbia residents were injured Sunday when their cars collided and overturned near the intersection of Millbrook Drive and Scott Boulevard.

Columbia police said alcohol and drugs were possible factors in the accident.

At 11:17 p.m., Jeffrey Hathaway, 17, was driving south on Scott Boulevard and Graham McKay, 26, was driving north on Scott Boulevard when McKay, making a left onto Millbrook Drive, turned into the path of Hathaway’s car, po-

lice said. The cars collided, went off the road and flipped on the west side of Scott Boulevard.

Two fire engines, a heavy rescue squad and two ambulances responded to the accident, said Battalion Chief Steven Sapp of the Columbia Fire Department. Firefight-

ers had to use hydraulic equipment to get McKay out of his vehicle, said Officer Scott Sergent.

Both drivers were sent to local hospitals, but none of their injuries was life-threatening.

Hathaway was wearing a seat belt during the accident; McKay was not, Sergent said.

Sergent said that marijuana and rolling papers were found in McKay’s possession and that charges were pending the outcome of a toxicology report.
