The Daniel Boone Regional Library board will welcome public comments about preliminary plans for a new building for the Southern Boone County Public Library in Ashland.

The first forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the American Legion Hall, 123 E. Broadway in Ashland. The second will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the South County Senior Center, 406 Douglas Drive in Ashland.

The public’s comments will then be taken into consideration at the regional library’s building committee meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the senior center.

“Then, based on the direction the building committee gives the architects, they will proceed on conceptual designs,” said Elinor Barrett, associate director of the regional library.

In September, the Daniel Boone Regional Library bought 1.5 acres at 911 S. Henry Clay Blvd., just south of Southern Boone County Primary School in Ashland. The library bought an additional 0.94 acres in January.

The new building is part of the regional library’s master plan, which also includes a new library branch in the northern Columbia area. Both projects would be funded by a tax levy increase, but no decision has been made on the amount or when to put an issue before voters.
