A Cole County circuit judge candidate and former Jefferson City Council member was struck by two vehicles and killed early Monday in southern Boone County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
After losing control of his ve-
hicle and landing in a ditch around 3:30 a.m. on U.S. 63 near Gans Creek Road, Clyde P. Angle walked up to the highway and was hit by two vehicles, said Highway Patrol Sgt. Paul Reinsch. The 58-year-old man was
pronounced dead at the scene.
Angle, a lawyer in Jefferson City, was known for being an advocate for open government, said Mayor John Landwehr, who served with Angle on the City Council.
“He was a big proponent of the Sunshine Law,” Landwehr said. “It’s a real loss to the community on a number of levels.”
Angle had a contentious relationship with the Cole County Commission, which led to him being temporarily banned from meetings. He was a candidate in division one in the 19th Judicial Circuit against Republican Tom Brown.
The crash investigation is ongoing, and neither of the drivers who struck Angle has been cited, Reinsch said.
