MU police are investigating a “computer crime,” described in their records as possession of child pornography, that occurred in Cramer Hall earlier this week.

Rob Deleeuw, 18, freshman, said he and four or five other residents of Cramer informed their residential advisor that another student in the building had video files with pornographic images of children.

Deleeuw said the files were on a shared iTunes network that allows anyone in the building to access other residents’ files. He saw the contents of the file briefly last week.

“I saw it last week and I told a bunch of people about it, but nobody believed me,” Deleeuw said.

Deleeuw, who lives down the hall from the student under investigation, said that on Monday between 10 and 11 p.m. somebody posted a screen shot of the play list on the student’s door.

“It was up, pretty much up, for a little while and then somebody tore it down,” he said.

Deleeuw said police visited the dormitory on Tuesday.

MU Police Capt. Brian Weimer declined to name the person or describe him or her as a student. He said the case is under investigation.

Weimer said MU Department of Residential Life reported the incident to MU police at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

MU Department of Residential Life Director Frankie Minor said that a student was questioned by police about a computer crime, but declined to elaborate.
